The gap between a goal and a result is almost never motivation. It is that "get healthier" or "launch the thing" does not tell you what to do on a Tuesday, so on Tuesday you do something else.
Goals in Tase exist to close that gap. A goal breaks into stages, stages into tasks, and the tasks land in the same list as everything else you are doing.
Breaking it down
You can define the stages yourself, or describe the goal and let Tase propose a breakdown. The proposal is a starting point — it is usually wrong in a couple of interesting ways, and correcting it is how you find out what you actually meant.
Progress is something you set deliberately, with milestone check-ins along the way. It is not computed from task counts, because a percentage that goes up while nothing real changes is worse than no percentage.
Connected to the work
A goal that lives on its own page is a wish. The point of connecting tasks to a goal is that your ordinary to-do list starts showing you which of today's work is actually serving something you chose.

Does it set the goals for me?+
No. It will propose a breakdown once you have said what you want, but the goal is yours.
What happens when I miss a milestone?+
Nothing punitive. It stays visible, which is the useful part.
Can a goal have no deadline?+
Yes. Some things are directions rather than deadlines and the product does not force a date.
Are goals shared with anyone?+
Only if you choose to share one, which produces a public page you can revoke at any time.
